Silica Compliance Program

Many companies (i.e. general contractors, owners, developers
etc.)Silica Safety Program are requiring written silica safety programs before work
progresses. These programs are site-specific, describe the engineering and work practice controls to be incorporated at 
the worksite, and include records of compliance activities. The 
written program should include:

 

  • Introduction: Project description, location, scope and schedule of work.

 

  • Personnel: Project Manager, Silica Program Manager or Safety advisor.

 

  • Silica dust-emitting activities: Describe tasks, equipment, and materials used by the work crew.

 

  • Engineering and work practice controls: Describe type of control, equipment, use and maintenance procedures. Include rationale for selecting each control and alternative technologies considered.

 

  • Personal air monitoring results: Provide air sampling results for silica dust-emitting activities.

 Silica Safety Program

  • Schedule: Provide timetable for implementing compliance program.

 

  • Interim controls: Describe respiratory protection and other controls that will be used for each task.  

 

  • Hygiene procedures: Describe protective clothing and equipment, housekeeping, clean areas, showers, and hand washing stations.

 

  • Worker rotation schedule: (if applicable).
